Desire As Medicine Podcast

124 ~ Desire Over Obligation: A Guided Yes and No Meditation (Toolbox Edition)

Brenda and Catherine Season 3 Episode 124

The moments that change our lives rarely shout; they whisper through breath, pulse, tightness, and ease. We designed this guided mini toolbox to help you hear those whispers and turn them into choices you trust.

Across a calm, grounded practice, we slow down your nervous system, contrast the felt sense of yes versus no, and translate sensation into a clean, honest response you can act on today.

This episode is a guided meditation designed to help you feel the difference between a true yes and no. You get to practice slowing down and putting your attention on your body while working with a real life choice so sensation becomes clear guidance. You leave with embodied clarity, stronger self trust, and one simple next step rooted in desire instead of pressure.

Highlights:
• why knowing yes and no builds trust with self and others
• breath, relaxation, and access to body cues
• contrast practice of imagining yes vs no
• mapping sensations like expansion, tightness, and flutter
• aligning choices with capacity and becoming
• choosing a clean, simple action without overexplaining
• integrating sensations and returning to the room
• permission to change your mind while staying honest

You can find our handles in the show notes. We'd love to hear from you.

SPEAKER_01:

Welcome to Desire is Medicine. We are two very different women living a life led by desire, inviting you into our world. I'm Brenda.

SPEAKER_02:

I'm a devoted practitioner to being my fully expressed true self in my daily life, motherhood, relationships, and my business. Desire has taken me on quite a ride, and every day I practice listening to and following the voice within. I'm a middle school teacher, turned coach and guide of the feminine.

SPEAKER_01:

And I'm Catherine, devoted to living my life as the truest and hopefully the highest version of me. I don't have children, I've never been married, I've spent equal parts of my life in corporate as in some down and low shady spaces. I was the epitome of Tired and Wired, and my path led me to explore desire. I'm a coach, guide, energy worker, and a forever student.

SPEAKER_02:

Even after decades of inner work, we are humble beginners, on the mat, still exploring, always curious. We believe that listening to and following the nudge of desire is a deep spiritual practice that helps us grow.

SPEAKER_01:

On the Desire's Medicine podcast, we talk to each other, we interview people we know and love about the practice of desire, bringing in a very important piece that is often overlooked, being responsible for our desire. Welcome back. Family, friends, loved ones, hello. What a great 2025. We are entering into 2026. Such gorgeous energy. And one of the things that we definitely, definitely, definitely will reap massive benefits from is knowing our yes and knowing our no. Brenda and I have been diving deep into this. And today we bring to you a mini toolbox, a mini episode. Just a tool for you to practice and play so you can feel into your desire. Your desire for yes, your desire for no. Like, have you ever said yes when you meant no or said no when you really meant yes? I get it. I've been there. It requires a lot of courage. But what would it be like for you if you were able to truly honor your yes and honor your no? Could you trust yourself and others to say no when they mean no or when you mean no? Trust yourself to say yes or trust others to say yes. Wouldn't that just be a great world? We get to build not just self-trust, but trust with others. So today we come to you with a quick toolbox that you can listen to so that you can get closer to your very own yes or no. Brought to you by Brenda. Thank you, Catherine.

SPEAKER_02:

So wherever you are, maybe you're lying on your couch, maybe you're driving, maybe you're walking, wherever you are when you listen to podcasts. If you can close your eyes if you're laying down. If you're driving, please do not close your eyes. But wherever you are, start to go internally. Feel your feet, let your shoulders drop. Take a deep breath.

SPEAKER_00:

Feel your heart. Take a deep breath into your belly.

SPEAKER_02:

Let your belly rise and fill with air and let it out. Wiggle your hips. And the invitation is for you to think about something in your life right now that you might be contemplating.

SPEAKER_00:

An invitation.

SPEAKER_02:

Think about something that you're considering saying yes or no to. Maybe something you've already said yes to, but you don't feel great about. Or maybe it's something you had a knee-jerk no to. And you might actually want to do it. Don't overthink it. Trust whatever came to you right now in this moment. Take a deep breath, relaxing your body as you let this invitation settle into you to your body. Imagine yourself saying yes to this invitation. Notice what your body does in response to thinking about this yes. Maybe you have an expansion in your body. Maybe your heart is fluttering.

SPEAKER_00:

Maybe you're holding your breath. Now imagine saying no. Notice what's happening in your body. What sensations are you feeling? Maybe you feel an expansion. Or a tightness. Maybe your heart is racing. Or your mouth is dry. Or you feel lightheaded.

SPEAKER_02:

You don't need to decide if you're going to say yes or no in this moment.

SPEAKER_00:

You're just noticing the sensations in your body. Your body has wisdom. And your body is speaking to you.

SPEAKER_02:

And maybe something is being revealed to you in this moment. And maybe not yet. Taking a breath. And feeling into the sensations that you just experienced. Which one of those moves you closer to the life you want to create for yourself? Which option helps you grow and evolve into who you are becoming? Which option honors what you are truly available for and have capacity for? Which option might stretch you in a way that you'd like to be stretched? Let these answers come to you in your body instead of thinking about it in your mind. Breathing. Always breathing. Often the answer to something comes in the space between the breath.

SPEAKER_00:

And wherever you are, choose one.

SPEAKER_02:

And choose a clean action. And you're not beholden to this at the end of this meditation. You can change your mind. But for the purpose of practice, if it's a no, what would be the cleanest, simplest way to say it? Trust what comes to you. If it's a yes, what's the cleanest, simplest way to say it? What might you need in order to truly honor your no or your yes? Breathing and letting all of that flow through your body into your cells. Notice how your body is feeling. What sensations you might be feeling in your head, in your mouth, in your chest, in your belly, in your genitals, in your legs, in your feet.

SPEAKER_00:

Are you warm or cold?

SPEAKER_02:

Or something in between? Just to notice how this process has you feel. And just remembering your yes-no are yours. There's no right or wrong answer. Whatever you chose is right for you in this moment.

SPEAKER_00:

You can change your mind.

SPEAKER_02:

You can try it differently next time. It's your life, your desire, your choice. Every invitation is here for you to learn and grow into the person that you are becoming. Breathing. Taking a moment to wiggle your fingers and toes. Open your eyes. Notice something in the room in front of you and focus on it. What color is it? What shape is it? Coming back to the present. And thank yourself for giving yourself this time to feel into what does it feel like to say yes or no? And practice that. Thank you for joining us. Until next time.

SPEAKER_01:
